Description
of a soft expression
Etude for both hands: to tie and highlight a melody on drums set by sixths.
The difficulty that the next study will present to the student is that, in similar passages, the left hand is not lower than the right, and that when it highlightd the singing part of the drums, it is without weight or stiffness. This piece, of a gentle expression, must be played softly, and almost always SOTTO VOCE . The student will hold his hands close to the keyboard, and raise his fingers little above the keys. If the movement of the fingers were not perfectly free, it would be necessary, to overcome this obstacle, and until it is entirely free, to renounce to put expression in the play; because nothing hinders more the mechanical execution than to want to make express with the hand what is still beyond its means.
